Gary Wayne Pettrey, 75, of Panther Lane, Princeton, died Monday, June 5, 2023, at the Beckley Veterans Hospital following a long illness. Born January 11, 1948, at Princeton, he was the son of the late John Oval Pettrey and Katherine Woodyard Pettrey. He was a graduate of Princeton High School, he then joined the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam Conflict. He retired from Fairmont Supply as its warehouse manager and truck driver. Gary loved his family, had many special friends and was of the Methodist Faith. Gary enjoyed deer hunting, being outdoors but most of all he loved racing cars and was a car enthusiast. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Sean Austin Boyles, two siblings, Darrell Eugene Pettrey and Carol Long. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 46 years, Dinah Janney Pettrey; Four children and their spouses, Christina and Sean Boyles, Gary W. and Crystal Pettrey Jr., Greg Pettrey and Amanda Pettrey, Gavin and Madison Pettrey; Four grandchildren, Peydon Akers, Cordell Boyles, Grace Pettrey and Austin Farley; One great-grandchild, Corben Boyles; Two siblings, Marlene Williams and Stevie Pettrey. A time of sharing and gathering will be held Friday, June 9, 2023, from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton. Since Gary loved Magenta Pink, the family has requested those attending to wear pink. There will be a moment during this time that the military will recognize Gary's service to his country.
