Garnet Cook White, 95, departed this life on May 18, 2025, at Brookdale Assisted Living, Bristol, VA. She was born in Lashmeet, West Virginia, on August 31, 1929, and was the only child of the late Kenneth E. and Avon Sanders Cook.
She graduated from Concord College (now University) in 1950 with a degree in Business Education and taught at many schools in Mercer County, retiring from the Mercer County Vocational Technical Education Center in Princeton, West Virginia. In addition she worked with Everett B. White, Associates, in accounting for eleven years. She also spent countless hours preparing bulletins and helping her second husband in his ministry. She was a member of the Athens Baptist Church in Athens, West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Everett B. White and her second husband, Rev. Thomas J. Goldston, Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Pamela White, of Kingsport, Tennessee, and Karen White Eagan and husband Robert, of Blountville, Tennessee. She is also survived by step-children Louise Goldston, of Beckley, West Virginia, Tom Goldston (Jannie) of Mineral, Virginia, and Beth Costanzo, of Chantilly, Virginia. She is survived by four granddaughters and two step-granddaughters and one step-grandson. She is also survived by several great grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.
Garnet was a woman of strong Christian faith and believed God had a plan for her and she just needed to work with His plan and so she did until He called her home.
In accordance with her wishes, she was cremated and a private graveside service will be held at the Athens Cemetery in Athens, West Virginia. Anyone wishing to remember Garnet may do so by making a memorial contribution to the Athens Baptist Church at 102 State St., P.O. Box 728, Athens, West Virginia, earmarked for missions work.
