Obituary

Freda May Gilley, 84, of Hinton Road, Athens, died Monday, October 21, 2024, at the Rockin' Chair Residential Care in Lerona. Born, May 2, 1940, in Sun Hill, WV (Wyoming County) to the late Masil Cole and Ruby Blankenship Cole.

Freda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Freida was a graduate of Baileysville High School and earned her  Bachelor's Degree from Marshall University. She taught school for seven years and she and her husband operated a small merchandise business.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Gilley, one son, Dr. Paul Gilley and three siblings, Clyde Cole, Harold Cole and Peggy Mitchell. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Kathy Gilley and Tony Gilley; Daughter-in-law, Cindy Gilley; Five siblings, Paul Ray Cole, Grady Cole, Jerry Cole, Clay Monroe Cole and David Cole; Five grandchildren; Seven great-grandchildren; Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family has honored Freda's request to be cremated with no services. Inurnment will follow at a later dated at the Gilley Cemetery at Clear Fork.
