Obituary

Evelyn Katherine Hogan Scott, 98, of Gardner Road, joined her family in heaven including her parents, Claude and Irene Falke Hogan, her husband of 72 years John Allen Scott. She was preceded by her brothers Jackson and Allen and sister Nita.  After a short illness Evelyn passed away on April 1, 2022 at home. Evelyn was born September 24, 1923, in War. She had fond memories of the coal camps before the family moved to Princeton her senior year of high school. She worked at Maidenform before earning her BS degree from Concord College and graduate courses through West Virginia University. Honoring her memory is her son, John Scott, Jr. and wife Shirley. If you wanted to see her face light up with pride, just mention her three grandchildren and their families—Jennifer Scott with sons Jackson and Brayden of Atlanta GA., Michael Todd with daughters Layla & Lilly of Concord VA: and Patrick Lee with wife Bobbi and daughters DeLana and Kristen of Spanishburg. She is also survived by her sister Dana Jones and brother David Hogan (Louise). Evelyn taught school for 31 years in Mercer County and truly loved her students. Her first job was teaching at a one-room school on Black Oak Mountain. She then taught at Montcalm and Thorn Street Elementary. She was very active in her community and profession. She was a charter member of the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa and received the Golden Sister Award. She and her husband were life members of the Farm Bureau. Evelyn's happy place was being outside working in her lawn & flowers beds.  She and John were charter members of the Melrose Community Church. She and Nita worked closely to coordinate all the women's activities, Bible School and Sunday School Classes. The family wants to thank Emma Boswell, Barbara Farley, and Compassus for all their love and care. Thursday morning at 11:00 A.M., (April 7, 2022), we will honor the life of Evelyn Scott from the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Richard Godfrey officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.  Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until the service hour.  Serving as pallbearers are Howard Hill, Todd Scott, Lee Scott, Brayden Lucas, Jackson Lucas & Steven Jones.
