Obituary

Eva Fay Johnston Conner, age 90, of Bainbridge, passed away Thursday August 3, 2023, at the Greenfield Skilled Nursing Center. Fay was born on October 19, 1932, in Rock, West Virginia, the daughter of the late William Andrew Johnston and Eva (Davis) Johnston. Fay was a long-time member of the Bainbridge Church of Christ. Fay graduated from nurses training in June of 1954. She married the love of her life, Hendsley, on February 16, 1954, in York, South Carolina, and while Fay was finishing her schooling, her and Hendsley hid their marriage because they were in violation of the "no married women" policy by the nursing school. While Hendsley was serving in the United States Air Force, Fay worked at several hospitals through the years. Upon his retirement, they moved to Highland County, Fay began working at the Highland District Hospital, and after 13 years she retired in 1992. She enjoyed reading, and she loved her time traveling to all 50 states with her husband in their motorhome. She loved her family and will be greatly missed. Fay is survived by her husband of 69 years, Hendsley "Hench" Randoph "Randy" Conner; son, Kevin Conner; daughter, Kathy Lynn (Ken) Ventura; grandson, Frank Randolph (Stephanie) Ventura; granddaughter, Brandi Jade Ventura; two brothers, Bobby Johnston and Doug Johnston; a sister, Mary Ann Cox and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kerry Randolph Conner; four brothers, Ralph, Andrew, Ken, and Dick Johnston; four sisters, Billie Stump, Joyce Carre, Carol Dalton, and Barbara Alderman. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday August 8, 2023, at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro and on Thursday August 10, 2023, visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Directory in Princeton, WV.
