Eva Marie Gates, 103, of Christiansburg, VA, formerly of War & Princeton, died peacefully early Friday morning, November 24, 2023, at New River Valley Medical Center. Born February 23, 1920, at Mohegan, she was the daughter of the late Robert Leslie Taylor & Stella Mae Tester Taylor Williams. Eva was a graduate of Big Creek High School in 1938. Eva was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and homemaker. She loved reading her Bible, working jigsaw puzzles & working cross word puzzles. Eva had lived in War for more than 84 years; she was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Byron Owens Gates. Those left to cherish her memory, three children & their spouses. Roger O. Gates (Patty), Carol Johnson (John), and Marvin Gates (Sonna). Six grandchildren, Greg Gates, Mark Gates (Melissa), Shelley Watson (Gregory), David Johnson (Sarah), Byron Gates, and Katherine McDaniel (Matthew), along with 8 great grandchildren. Services to honor the life of Eva Gates will be held on Noon, Wednesday, November 29, 2023, in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Spencer Oxford officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memory Gardens on the Bluefield-Tazewell Road. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. until the service hour.
