Ernestine Belcher Pennington, 88, of Speedway, West Virginia, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October, 15, 2026, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Born October 1, 1938 to the late Raleigh James and Bertha Jane Lambert Belcher of Silver Springs, Princeton, WV.
Ernestine was locally known by many as Tina, Teenie, and Mamaw. Teenie was a graduate of Princeton High School. After graduating, she began working at Leggetts where she met the love of her life, Frederick Alton Pennington. They were married August 31, 1958, for 43 years before Fred passed away. They were blessed with three daughters. Tina was a homemaker for many years before starting a job at Concord College in the Business Office. She retired from Concord in 2006 after 30 years of service.
Teenie was an active member of Painter’s Chapel Church for 55 years. She was involved with the Willing Workers, Vacation Bible School, the bus ministry, and Wednesday night youth group. She was very diligent to volunteer her time to her neighbors and friends, and donated to many charities. Her motto was “Be useful when you live.” She definitely lived her life by this standard.
Teenie was proceeded in death by her parents, six brothers, and a sister. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred; grandson, Jacob Allan Wood; and son-in-law, Stan Blake.
Those left to cherish her memories are Catherine (Reggie) Wood, Janet Blake, Jane (Chris) Nash, nine grandchildren, Jonathan Wood, Sarah Wood (Subas Rai), David (Heather) Wood, Amanda (Derrick) Showalter, Eric (Amber) Wood, Lindsey Nash, Aaron (Kayla) Nash, Levi (Jenna-Kay) Nash, Luke (Preslie) Nash, and a chosen granddaughter, Maya Tamang, along with 16 great grandchildren. Survivors also include three special nieces, Debbie Boyd, Rhonda Philpott, and Diana Old. Also left to cherish her memory are many nephews and nieces.
Teenie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her greatest joy in life was family and serving her Lord and Savior. She faithfully prayed for her family and was a prayer warrior to many. She leaves behind a legacy of deep friendships and community service. She will be greatly missed.
A visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Directory on Athens Road from 6-8 PM on Monday, October 19th. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 20th at 11 PM at Painter’s Chapel Church in Speedway, WV followed by a graveside service at Bowles Cemetery in Speedway. Pastor Randy Sargent will officiate. The following will serve as pallbearers: grandsons, Jonathan and David Wood, Eric Wood, Aaron, Levi and Luke Nash, grand son-in-law, Derrick Showalter, and great-nephew, Jason Boyd.
