Emelene Akers, 88, of Narrows Va died peacefully Wednesday August 21, 2024, in her daughter's home in Fenton, MI. Born February 9, 1936, in Elgood, WV. Daughter of the late Jess Willard Nelson and Elsie Hazelwood Nelson. Emelene was a devoted wife, mother, grandma, great grandma (GG), friend and was a Faithful Chrisitan. She enjoyed sewing everything even wedding dresses, babysitting, teaching children, an avid gardener and loved growing flowers, took all the neighborhood kids to VBS, Wonderful Cook and was in charge of the Kitchen at Elizabeth Lake Church of Christ in Waterford, MI, after retiring she became a devoted member of the Glen Lyn Church of Christ, where you could always find her in the kitchen. Emelene was known for being funny, feisty, entertaining, loved her family and spent a lot of time with her daughter and grandchildren. She would get in the pool even though she couldn't swim, jump on the trampoline, kayaking, and riding on the back of a motorcycle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband David L. Akers Jr. and four siblings, Lorene Akers, Nina Shorter, Imogene Akers, and Lewis Nelson. Survivors include her daughter Teresa (Bob) Lauinger. Three Granddaughters Jennifer (David) Irwin, Katherine Lauinger, and Jessica (Will) Donise. Eight Great Grandchildren. One Sister Betty Shorter and Brother-in-law Johnny Shorter. Several Nieces and Nephews and special friend Bob Marshall. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Emelene Akers will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 30, 2024, in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Dan Nichols, preacher officiating. Burial will follow in Elgood Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 12:00 P.M. until the service hour. Serving as pallbearers will be, Brian Nelson, Michael Holdren, Wil Donsie, David E. Irwin, Randy Church and Glenn Ogden. The family has requested in lieu of flowers donations be made in Emelene's memory to: Glen Lyn Church of Christ, P.O. Box 120, Glen Lyn, VA 24093.
