Eileen Darnell Mooney, 103, of Salem, formerly of Princeton, died Friday, April 14, 2023, at Brookdale, Salem, VA. Born October 31, 1919, in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Onnie (Jack) Darnell. At a young age, Eileen was an accomplished pianist. In 1938, she married Peery Mooney and they made their home in Princeton where they raised their two boys, Conrad and Kenneth, while Peery had a long successful career with the railroad. While in Princeton, they were very active members of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where Eileen was a member of the Disciples Women.  During their 65 years of marriage they were both valued assets in the community. Eileen was a sister in the WV Grand Chapter of the order of the Eastern Star Princeton #53.  She was also a member of many organizations such as the Farm Women's Club and the Mercer County Historical Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Peery Mooney, son, Conrad Mooney, daughter-in-law, Lynn Hall Mooney and a brother, Hensil Darnell. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Ken Mooney of Wirtz, VA; Daughter-in-law, Shirley Mooney of Raleigh, NC; Four grandchildren, Sutton, Kevin, Kristen and Josh Mooney; Twelve great-grandchildren (and still counting). Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, April 21, 2023, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens (Garden of Everlasting Life) in Princeton with Pastors Gary Lyons and Steve Janning officiating. Those attending the services are requested to meet at the cemetery by service hour. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, please donate in her memory to the First Christian Church, 805 Straley Avenue, Princeton, WV  24740. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
