Edna Southern passed away August 19, 2025. Born at home, Rich Creek, Giles County, VA on July 16,1932 . Edna was the middle daughter born to Estel Henderson Page and Carrie Archer Page. While growing up Edna enjoyed being outdoors, and helping her father around the farm, as well as gardening both vegetables and flowers and birdwatching. She played basketball at Narrows High School. After graduating from Narrows High School, Narrows, VA she worked at McLaughlin's at RichCreek, VA , then worked at Spangler Drug in Princeton, WV until they closed. She worked as a homemaker, keeping foster children in the home at Elgood, WV. Later she worked for Andy Clark, cleaning Modular Homes and offices, doing maintenance and was self employed. Edna is preceded in death by her husband, Lemuel A. Southern, daughters, Vickie Southern and Linda Page. She is survived by her son, Lorne Southern and wife Terri of Gaston, SC, Michael Southern, Servilla Kidd and husband Jerry of Kents Store, VA, Dan Southern of Elgood, WV. Additional Survivors are her sister; Alma Lee Eden and husband Gerald of Roanoke, VA. Grandchildren Arthur Southern and wife Jessica of Greenville, SC, Preston Southern and Kristina of West Columbia, SC, Jessica Kidd and Stephanie & Annabelle of Ruckersville, VA, Jerry Wayne Kidd, Jr. of Blacksburg, VA and girlfriend Ceilidh MacRae of Nelson, VA, Elizabeth Kidd-Spickard and husband Austin of Kents Store, VA. Great grandchildren Zoe Mae and Tyler Spickard of Kents Store, VA, Sister-in-law, Anita Howerton, a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M. Saturday, August 23, 2025 in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road on with Pastor Brent Dunagan officiating. Burial will follow in the Athens Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 P.M. until the service hour. Serving as pallbearers will be Arthur Southern, Preston Southern, Kristina Lizardi, Jerry Wayne Kidd Jr., Austin Spickard & Ceilidh MacRae. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hatcher Union Church or any Shriner's Hospital. Online condolences may be shared with the family via www.memorialfd.com . The Southern family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
