Obituary

Douglas Marshall "Doug" Kinzer II, 44, of Princeton, is now resting in peace, he died Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born December 17, 1980, in Bluefield, he was the son of Douglas Marshall Kinzer & Rhonda Meadows Kinzer of Lerona. After graduating from Pikeview High School in 1999, Doug joined the U.S. Army, where he served his country proudly for more than 12 years, earning the rank of SSgt. While serving his country, he was stationed in Kuwait & Iraq, he was awarded 2 purple hearts medals, 2 bronze star medals, the USAF Presidential Achievement Medal, Valorous Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal,  Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Medal and a host of other decorations & Citations.  Doug's dream was to be a career soldier, but this dream was taken from him in September 2011, when he sustained significant injuries from the blast of an IED while on route clearance mission in Afghanistan. His rehabilitation process was long and difficult- initially told by doctors that he would never walk again- but he proved them wrong through pure grit, determination and stubbornness. While his health allowed, he loved hunting, archery, weightlifting and being a big brother to all of his family.  He especially loved all of his army buddies whom he served during his twelve years in the Army. He was preceded by grandparents Kyle "Buddy" & Elaine Kinzer and Grandfather Harry Meadows. Those left to cherish his memory in addition to his mom and dad, his loving wife of seven years, Stefanie Six Kinzer, two stepchildren who he loved dearly, Madison (Madi) Whittaker & Maddox Henkel, two children, Anthony Kinzer & Ava Kinzer, a brother Rick Kinzer & wife Shannon. Grandmother Anna Meadows, Mother-in-law Rebecca Six along with a host of cousins, aunts & uncles. In honoring his life, a service to celebrate his life will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 27, 2025 in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Greg Kinzer & Dr. Dan Jividen officiating, along with military honors given by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the service time. At a later date, he will be laid to rest in the Southwest Veterans Cemetery at Dublin VA. Doug was a soldier to the very end, from all of his trialss and issues, his final act of love, giving of life to others, from surrendering his heart, lungs & kidneys to four other people. What a wonderful act of LOVE.
