Obituary

Once upon a time in 1949 a legendary superhero was born!

The location was Keystone, West Virginia. The name, Douglas Christian. But all superheroes have to have earthly parents to raise them, right? Those parents were Wilburn and Ella Christian. Into the world he went. Many have heard of the battle he had to make it to school. In those times Northfork schools could only be traveled uphill both ways. It's been said barefoot in the winter snows, however, it has been confirmed he did occasionally wear penny loafers. Throughout his youth, he was referred to as "Hollywood". He got this name not only for his striking good looks, but also the pompadour he rocked, often stopping in the middle of the street to comb. With these good looks and a smooth singing voice he was a regional sensation with the critically acclaimed band Grapes of Wrath. During this same time a romance blossomed with a bombshell blonde, also from Northfork WV, named Rebecca Shupe. For the next 52 years they stood side by side, fighting evil and saving the universe. This universe was made up of Kevin and Stephanie Christian of Chloe, WV along with Eric and Kelli Christian of Harrisburg, NC. But wait, there's more! Who could forget his "little darlins". Two granddaughters - Kelsey (Daniel) Rodriguez and Harper Christian. Two grandsons – Breaker Christian and Ryder Christian. In addition he had five brothers: Bernie Shupe, Dennis "Scrap" Christian, Roger Christian, Alan Christian and Danny Christian. Six sisters: Doreen Christian, Belinda Shupe, Barbara Saunders, Patty Price, Carol Wert and Deanna Kemp. Some others may have known him as the hard working, always on the go, owner and operator of Elkhorn Valley Construction. Or perhaps you had seen him cruising around in his favorite toy, a fiery red Ford Thunderbird. No services will be held. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family asks that you use that money to go out, have a nice dinner and raise a toast to the life and legend of Doug Christian. He will be sorely missed, but his legend will live on! The family has honored Doug's wishes, he has been cremated and there will be no services. Online condolences may be shared with the family via www.memorialfd.com . The Christian family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
