Don Lane, 85, of Tomaranne Drive, Roanoke, VA, died peacefully, Monday, March 6, 2023, at Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem, VA, with his loving wife by his side. Born April 11, 1937, in McDowell County, WV, he was the son of the late Charles Virgil Lane and Bertie Ethel Lane. Don was a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. After completing high school he served his country admirably in the U.S. Army, and also served as a member of the Honor Guard. He worked as a first-class machinist and as a school bus driver for Mercer County.  During retirement he enjoyed playing his guitar and fishing. He especially enjoyed all kinds of work, particularly church work and working in his yard. Don was a member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke. Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 64 years,  Nancy Eveline Lane; One daughter, Felecia Dawn Elliott (Steven); One son, Curtis James Lane; Two grandchildren, Kaitlyn Brooke Welshans (Kaleb) and Sarah Christine Gates (Nate); Three great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Samuel and Adilynn; One brother, Virgil Rondall Lane. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Don Lane will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 11, 2023, from the Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Robert Lane and Joel Lane officiating.  Friends may visit the family from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Graveside service with military honors provided by WV National Honor Guard for family members will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, March 13, 2023, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Family attending the graveside service is requested to meet at the funeral home no later than 1:45 P.M. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
