Dolores Sue Bryant, 94, of Spanishburg, WV died peacefully at her home on December 21, 2025. Born in Egeria, WV on April 6, 1931, Sue was the daughter of the late William Green Lilly and Effie Mae Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, James Edward Bryant, Sr., and three sisters, Beatrice Joy Reid, Barbara Jo Walker, and Bernice Hammond.
Left to cherish her memory are daughter Julia Ann Woelfel and husband Michael of Huntington, WV; son James Edward Bryant, Jr. and wife Tina of Spanishburg, WV; grandchildren Matthew James Woelfel (Stacie) of Huntington, WV; Michael Jacob Woelfel (Tracy) of Ona, WV; Trevor James Bryant (Katy) of White Sulphur Springs, WV; and Bethany Noel Johnston (Ashton) of Morgantown, WV; great-grandsons Colin and Carter Woelfel of Huntington, WV; great-granddaughter Madelyn Woelfel of Ona, WV; brother William Green "Pete" Lilly II (Bobbie) of Colombus, OH; sister Cynthia Belcher (Jerry) of Spanishburg, WV; sister Mary Compton of Florida; Several nieces and nephews; Special friend, Rae Shrewsbury and her caregiver Daphne (Susie) Pack.
Sue graduated from Spanishburg High School in 1949 and earned a bachelor's degree from Berea College. She was employed by Mercer County Schools, starting her career as a home economics and science teacher and retiring from the school system as the Director of Child Nutrition. Sue was a devout member of the Spanishburg United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and member of the United Methodist Women and choir. She supported Spanishburg and PikeView High schools and was a founding supporter of the Bluestone Valley Volunteer Fire Department. Additionally, Sue volunteered as a poll worker and served in leadership roles in various community groups including the Spanishburg Ruritan Club, Bluestone Valley Fair, Mercer County Fair, and the Lilly Reunion Executive Board. Sue was a lifelong learner and took up several hobbies. She was an avid cook, reader, seamstress, gardener, and hostess who loved the occasions when she was able to bring her community and family together.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Sue Bryant will be held 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor C. T. Lilly III officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday from noon until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sue's memory may be made to the Spanishburg United Methodist Church at 160 Sarver Rd. Kegley, WV 24731.
