Dewayne Avery Bergen, 55, passed away on August 7, 2026. Born on November 25, 1970, Dewayne grew up in Angleton, Texas, where he made many memories and formed roots that remained a meaningful part of his life.

Dewayne was a hardworking man who spent many years as a truck driver. Life on the road suited him well, and over the years he traveled countless miles and collected plenty of stories along the way. Away from work, Dewayne knew how to enjoy the simple things in life. He especially loved going to the dance hall, where good music, dancing, and good company could always bring a smile to his face.

Perhaps one of Dewayne’s greatest gifts was his wonderful sense of humor. He had a way of making people laugh and bringing lightheartedness into the lives of those around him. His personality, stories, laughter, and unforgettable sense of humor created memories that his family and friends will cherish for years to come.

Above all, Dewayne will be remembered for the special place he held within his family. He leaves behind his son, Gary Dewayne Bergen and his wife, Kayleigh Bergen; his daughter, Sylvanna Elizabeth Smith and her husband, Ace Smith; his sister, Elizabeth Francis Sargent; and his brother, Raymond Lewis Bergen, Sr. He also leaves behind extended family members and friends who were blessed to know and love him.

Dewayne was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Dale Bergen and Sylvia Ann Bergen; his brother, Claude William Bergen; and his sister, Paula Renee’ Barnes.

Those who loved Dewayne will remember him in many ways—in the stories told about his years on the road, in the sound of a favorite song at the dance hall, in the meals he prepared and shared, and in an unexpected joke that brings everyone to laughter. These are the moments that made Dewayne who he was, and they are the memories his loved ones will carry forward.

While saying goodbye is never easy, Dewayne leaves behind a lifetime of memories that cannot be taken away.
