Obituary

Daniel Stephen Ballard

10/23/1951-5/20/2026

Daniel S. Ballard, age 74 of Lerona, WV passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

Dan was born in Princeton WV to Jack C. Ballard and Christine Bobbs. He graduated from Logan High School in Logan County, WV. Post graduation Dan joined the United States Navy and served as a hospital corpsman in Portsmouth, VA and Guam.

It was in the Navy that Dan met Sherrie, after a short courtship they married on November 13, 1971. They spent 54 loving years together; they were a remarkable example of what true love and commitment means. As a husband Dan was always kind and loving, in all their time together Dan never raised his voice at Sherrie.

Dan spent many years driving long haul trucks until he transitioned to a mechanic. He was a skilled diesel mechanic and was very proud of his work. While living in upstate New York he worked for Bailey Ford and Adirondack Energy. After moving back to West Virginia in 2004 Dan worked at Worldwide Equipment until he retired. After he retired, he worked at Pipestem State Park in security and with grounds spending his days mowing the golf course. He didn’t stop fixing things as he was always helping friends with various mechanic needs, at times leaving his wife frustrated at the things he put off fixing at home. Outside of work Dan enjoyed fishing, watching TV, spending time with his family, a good meal on his favorite plate (he didn’t like any of that spicy stuff), and good conversation.

If you knew him you loved him. Dan will be remembered most for his love for his family, his goofy sense of humor, quick wit, his calmness, kindness and all the stories he liked to tell (and retell over and over).

Dan was preceded in death by his father Jack C. Ballard and his wife Sherrie Ballard.

Left to cherish his memory are his three children Christopher Ballard (Sharon) of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, Matthew Ballard (Kelly) of Pensacola, Florida and Aimee Ballard (Samantha) of Riner, Virginia.

His mother Christine Bobbs of Lerona, WV. His sister Debbie Lowe (Roy) of Jumping Branch, WV, his brother Tim Ballard (Tina) of Bridgeport, WV and nieces and nephews. Special Aunt Nadine Taylor
