Obituary

On a cold and blustery February morning, Cuzzie Mae Belcher Mathena, left this world and gained her Heavenly wings as she rested in the arms of her Savior. Cuzzie dedicated her life to serving her Lord. Her church, The Bluefield Nazarene Church, and her church family meant everything to her. She was always there to help out, to help lead, and to guide numerous positions in the church, including a passion for teaching her Sunday School Class for over 50 years. Cuzzie was a devoted daughter to her parents, Andrew and Flora Belcher. Of all the titles she acquired, her role as Mrs. Wilfred Mathena, was her best. Wilfred and Cuzzie married on September 27th, 1963. Shortly afterward, they moved to Bluefield where they spent their married life. Cuzzie and Wilfred had a great life. Always on the go or traveling, they were always together, sharing in all that life had to offer. Cuzzie was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Flora Belcher, a brother, Everette Toby Belcher, and her Aunt Irene. Left to cherish her memory, is her husband of 62 years, Wilfred B. Mathena, two nephews, Randy and Timmy Belcher, and a niece, Jennifer Rotendo all of Maryland.  A time of family and friends to gather and celebrate Cuzzie's life, will be held on Friday, February 28th 2025, from 9:30-11:00 a.m., until the service hour at 11, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Bluefield, with Pastor Sherrill Michael officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.  The family would like to express their deepest, heartfelt appreciation to the Princeton Health Care Center, for all the love and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, 1400 Stadium Drive, Bluefield, WV 24701.  Online condolences may be shared with the family via www.memorialfd.com. The Mathena family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the A thens Road in Princeton.
