Chester Lee Lewis Setliff, 87, of Camp Creek, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026 at Raleigh General Hospital. Born March 19, 1939, in Killarney, WV, he was the son of the late Chester Guy Setliff and Zola Epling Setliff. After graduating Spanishburg High School in 1957, Chester served his family proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Conflict. Chester became a Heavy Duty Mechanic until his retirement from Carter Machinery at both locations of Bluefield, WV and Warrenton, VA as well as Walter Grinders, of Fredericksburg, VA. When not working, Chester enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time on the water, harvesting ramps, and gardening. He was of Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by sister, Nancy Farley (Bill); Brother, Jimmy Setliff (Betty); sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Geraldine Proctor (John) and Doris Clark (Vernon); brother-in-law, Dick Lilly and Tom Lusk.
Chester is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rheba Ann Jerrell Setliff; sisters Linda Lilly and Becky Broyles (Jim); sister-in-law Darnell Lusk and Becky Jerrell; brother-in-law Bobby Jerrell (Janice) a son, Lewis Setliff; three stepchildren he raised as his own, sons, Ron Hockaday and Thor Hockaday (Lisa Hubbard), daughter, Suzette Parks (Joe); a special grandson, Stephen Setliff; special great granddaughter, Sophia Setliff; an additional nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and his faithful dog, Daisy.
We would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Pine Lodge Nursing Home in Beckley as well as the Beckley VA Medical Long-term Care Center, for the wonderful care, compassion and support that they provided over the past few years.
A memorial gathering will be held Friday, June 19, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Directory, Princeton, WV.
