Obituary

Calvin Lee Mitchell Sr, 32 years of age. Sunrise September 1st, 1991. Sunset December 16th, 2023. Calvin was born and raised in Syracuse, New York. He enjoyed travelling and seeing new places, so he lived all over. He ultimately decided to settle down in Princeton, West Virginia and make it his home. Calvin was a bright light and could make friends anywhere he went. His personality and presence had a way of making people feel comfortable and gravitate towards him. He took a lot of pride in his communication skills and enjoyed teaching. Calvin got into technology as a kid and never gave up on it. He loved working with computers and different tech gadgets. He was in the process of attaining his master's degree in cyber security at Western Governor's University and had big dreams of becoming an ethical hacker for the Navy. He was very patriotic and wanted to serve his country. Calvin also had a passion for philosophical thought. He was very intellectual and spiritually enlightened. He spent a lot of time learning different religions and about the universe. He always shared his knowledge of spirituality with the people closest to him. Calvin's love of music went hand in hand with his spirituality. He would turn on the music and the words would just flow out of him. He could make a whole song with minimal effort. He spent a lot of time perfecting his craft and he had a ton of confidence. He was a man of many talents and interests. He loved reading and he had a large collection of books. He loved exotic animals, so he had several pets with hopes of getting more. He was a true adrenaline junkie, he enjoyed taking risks and facing his fears. He had hoped to go sky diving and bungee jumping at some point in his life. But most of all, Calvin had a pure heart. He enjoyed helping people, family, friends, and even strangers. He donated to the homeless and was always helping people who were less fortunate than him. He believed that no matter how people acted or treated you, it's your job to love them anyway. He made peace with all his wrongdoings and was dedicated to doing and being better. He regretted nothing and he spent every day trying to become the best version of himself. Calvin was and is a very special person, absolutely one of a kind. He was wise beyond his years. He is remembered as a son, a grandson, a brother, an uncle, a cousin, a nephew, a father, a friend, and a life partner. He always put his best foot forward to fulfill his role in our lives no matter what it was. Today is not a sad day where we grieve what we've lost, but rather a celebration of his life and who he was to all of us. We all have enough memories to last a lifetime. He will be dearly missed, but his spirit and memory will live on forever. Calvin was preceded in death by his father Willie Lee Mitchell, his mother Carla Mae Shepherd (McKinley), and his older sister Carolyn Mitchell (Clemons). He is survived by his Maternal grandparents, his stepfather, Dalton Shepherd. His two older brothers, Delton J. Mitchell, and Darrin L. Mitchell. Three sisters, Shanika M. Mitchell, Laylah P. Shepherd, and Shirlayja L. Shepherd. Cousins SaQuota Reaves, and Da'Quann Leonard. He had several aunts and uncles, as well as several nieces and nephews. He lives on through his three sons, Calvin Lee Mitchell Jr (CJ), Darius Mitchell, and Dominic Noda-Mitchell, as well as his life partner Kathryn E. Dunford (Katie). He had several friends who became family also, Eric (Renpanochi) Silkworth, Leon (Chip) Davis, Kamahl Williams, Trenton Sparks, and Henry Bradford. We all remember him by different names, Calvin, Ramaducci, Cal Melchizedek, Cali, Killa Calv, and Lil Nyce to list a few. He will forever have a special place in all our hearts. Gone but never forgotten. We love you. Funeral Services will be held Friday January 5, 2024 at 5 PM at Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton.
