Obituary

Buddy Eugene Raines, 88, peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 22,2026 at his home in Princeton, WV. Born March 28, 1937, in Montcalm, WV, he was the son of the late Arthur Lee Raines and Mabel Marie White Raines.

Bud was a graduate of Herndon High School where he was a star athlete in basketball and baseball. Ironically, he was offered a football scholarship to VMI based on practice performance. His time at VMI was cut short as he returned home to care for his ailing father. He later entered and graduated from Concord College receiving a degree in business. He would also serve his country in the early 60's in the United States Army stationed in Alaska.

Upon returning from service, Bud was introduced to wife Judith Ann Shrewsbury Raines. They were married on August 1, 1966, and remained true loves and constant companions until his passing.

He and Judy were lifelong members of First Christian Church in Princeton, WV where he served the Lord faithfully in several capacities throughout the years, with one of his favorites being Sunday School teacher.

Bud worked with several businesses as he furthered his career. He was employed with Allied Chemical Corporation in Tralee, WV, superintendent of mines with Capels Mines in Capels, WV, and Anaconda Cable where he would retire.

Upon his retirement, Bud and Judy enjoyed their time together in their home, attending church, and traveling to Morgantown, WV to support his beloved Mountaineers.

Bud's faith was very important to him and he was passionate about showing his love for Christ with family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Robert L. Raines, Jerry N.  Raines, and Larry B. Raines. Survivors include wife, Judith A. Raines, sister, Rose Ann Goddard, sister-in-law, Sandra Raines and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

A service to celebrate the life of Buddy Raines will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 27, 2026, in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastors Steve Janning & Gary Lyons officiating.
