Billy Ray Johnston, 82, of Wytheville, Va passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 28, 2025. He was born November 15, 1942 in Princeton, WV. He was a very proud Veteran of the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Randolph CVS-15. He often shared stories of his days as a coal miner and truck driver. Billy was a well known and loved bus driver of the Wythe County public school system and was known for his baking skills that he often shared with the community. He was a faithful and proud member of Life Changers Christian Center in Wytheville, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie Pellen Johnston and Iva Mae Johnston, 5 brothers, Jack, JE, Glen, Harold and Roger; sisters, infant Norma and Joanne Moses. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 62 years, Janice Saunders Johnston; two daughters, Cheryl (Wesley) Morgan and Tammy (Todd) Porter; three wonderful grandchildren; Latasha (Daniel) Bunn, Evan (Amanda) Morgan and Montana (Chad) Arnold; eight great grandchildren; Cayden, Collin and Arlie Bunn; Colton and Brooklyn Morgan; Lucas, Hazel and Liam Arnold. Billy is also survived by his little brother, Jimmy (Janie) Johnston and special sister-in-law, Deborah (Carl) Wellman. The Johnston family would like to extend a special thank you to Deborah Wellman and niece, Catherine Anderson for the help, love and care they provided during this time. A special thank you to staff of Medi Home Health and Hospice and Blue Ridge Cancer Care for the care given to Billy and his family. Funeral services will be held at Life Changers Christian Center, 2010 West Ridge Road, Wytheville, Va on Wednesday, April 30 at 7:00 p.m with Pastor Todd Porter officiating. Military graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin VA. Family will receive guests at Life Changers Christian Center from 5:00 p.m. until service time. Online condolences may be shared with the family via www.memorialfd.com, The Johnston family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
