Betty Jo Snider

Betty Jo Snider, 93, of Speedway, died Friday, August 14, 2026, at her home with her loving family by her side. Born September 18, 1932, in Spanishburg, she was the daughter of the late Sydney Harrison Wimmer & Eva Jane Morehead Wimmer. Betty was a graduate of Concord Training School, Concord College, and received her master’s degree from WV COGS.

Betty was a retired schoolteacher having taught more than 24 years, the last 17 years at Sun Valley Elementary School as the Principal. Her life was her family and church. She was a faithful member of Painters Chapel Church where she served as treasurer for 20 years. Betty had sung in the choir, a member of the Willing Workers, & loved working with Vacation Bible School. While her health allowed, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, baking and working in the flower garden. She was a member of the Sun Valley Ruritan Club. Betty was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by 9 siblings.

Those left to cherish her memory, her devoted and loving husband of 74 years, Mason Snider, two children, Terrence Lane “Terry” Snider & wife Patricia, Betsy Porterfield & husband Keith, two grandchildren, Justin Lane Snider & wife Katy, and William “Billy” Walker & wife Chelsea; 5 great-grandchildren Mason Lane Snider, Allie Matheson Snider, Colton Andrew Snider, Grayson James Walker & Hallee Blake Walker. Along with a host of nephews and nieces. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to her caregivers, Judie Sanders & Jessica Iczkowski.

Services to celebrate the life of Betty Jo Snider will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Painters Chapel Church in Speedway with Pastor Randy Sargent officiating. Burial will follow in the Snider Family Cemetery in Speedway. Friends may visit with the family Thursday from Noon until the service hour. Her family will serve as pallbearers.
