Obituary

Betty Nicholson Champ, 82, of Princeton, WV, died Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at Princeton Community Hospital. Born July 15, 1940, in Princeton, WV, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Quincy and Zoma Sandige Nicholson. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was of the Baptist faith, and a lifelong resident of Mercer County. She attended local schools in Princeton and was a graduate of the Bluefield Secretarial College in Bluefield, Virginia. Betty worked for many years at the Mercer County Health Department, and Bluefield Daily Telegraph. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Willard Ray Nicholson. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Thomas Champ (Olga); daughters, Katherine Lesher (David) and Reta Gale Mitchem (Danny); seven grandchildren, Joshua Mitchem, Nickie Robinett, Bryan Lesher, Eric Lesher, Katie Lesher, Thomas Champ, and Polina Champ. Three great grandchildren, Kylie Robinett, Jaydon Robinett, and Ellie Lesher; one sister, Ruby Nicholson McCroskey of North Carolina; one brother, Edward Nicholson of Mullens, West Virginia. Services to celebrate the life of Betty Champ will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 29, 2022, from the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Ricky McCroskey officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family from 10 A.M. until the service hour. Eddie Nicholson, Bryan Lesher, David Lesher, Danny Mitchem, Jason Robinett, and Tony McCroskey will serve as pallbearers.
