Barbara Joyce Buchanan, 74 of Moncks Corner, South Carolina passed away on August 23, 2025, in Carrollton, VA after a brief battle with cancer. Born August 18, 1951, in Princeton, WV, she was the daughter of the late George Francis Buchanan and Edna Maine Motley Buchanan. As a longtime resident of Princeton, she graduated from Princeton High School in 1969 and began her journey through life and raising four sons. After the death of her mother in 2005, Barbara was the primary caretaker of her father until his death in 2015. Barbara was also a longtime employee of the Willow Gift Gallery in Princeton and cherished her friendships with her coworkers and customers prior to her retirement. After retirement, Barbara enjoyed her annual trips with "the girls", visiting her children and grandchildren, solving puzzles, playing cards, word games, and listening to audio books. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Buchanan. Barbara is survived by her older brother Alvin Buchanan and wife Sherry; four sons, Mark Gunter and wife Mindy of Melbourne FL, Matthew Surface and wife Erika of Indian Trail NC, Adam Surface of Moncks Corner SC, and John Paul (J.P.) Surface of Bluffton SC. She also had six cherished grandchildren: Dylan, Alec, Hannah, Kyndal, Sarah, and Ayden along with a number of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Barbara also leaves behind a lifelong friend, Phyllis Lowe, who helped care for her during her battle with cancer. A Service to celebrate the life of Barbara Joyce Buchanan will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 1 P.M. at Memorial Funeral Directory on Athens Road in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family from noon until the service hour at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be members of her family. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens following the service.
