Alma Ruth
Sanders Hall
Sep 11, 1923 — Oct 3, 2023
Alma Ruth Sanders Hall, the last surviving member of her family, age 100, of 407 Brown Street, Princeton, West Virginia passed away at her home on October 3, 2023. Alma was born on September 11, 1923 to the late Riley and Pearl Steadham Sanders in Lashmeet, West Virginia. As a young adult, Alma worked as a clerk at several grocery stores and department stores and as a seamstress at several local garment manufacturers in the Princeton area. Later on, she worked as a teacher's aid for Head Start. Once, while staying with her sister Thelma, Alma worked at Gary #9 company store…she liked that job and she often spoke about it. Around 1947, Alma met Cecil Hall. On July 28, 1948, in Pearisburg, Virginia, Alma and Cecil were married. Throughout their lives, they resided in Mount Olivet, Lashmeet, Pinoak, and Princeton West Virginia respectively. Alma was a patient, loving, caring mother, grandmother, and home maker. She took pride in everything she did. Alma was a wonderful cook. Her dishes always tasted as good as they looked and she was always willing to share her recipes. She was known for her exceptional biscuits, and chicken and dumplings. Alma was a first class seamstress. She spent many hours at home working on countless sewing projects . Alma was always willing to mend clothes and various items for family members and friends. She was also happy to show others how to sew and create projects that included everything from quilts to pillows to dresses…….and many, many other projects. Alma enjoyed canning vegetables from the many gardens that she and Cecil planted. She had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. She always looked forward to playing highly competitive games of Rook with her family. Alma hardly ever threw anything away. She most often found ways to patch things up so that they could be used a few more years. This philosophy likely came from growing up during the depression era and appreciating everything she had and trying to make it last as long as possible. Alma dearly loved her family. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to others without giving it a second thought. Putting others first was a part of her that never changed. Alma was preceded in death by her husband Cecil H. Hall, her seven brothers; Oke Sanders, Marshall Sanders, John Sanders, Bower Sanders, Wallace Sanders, Robey Sanders, Blake Sanders, and her four sisters; Avon Cook, Zola Walker, Thelma Thomas, and Norma Kingrea. Alma is survived by her two children; daughter Maura Harvey and (Wes), son Richard Hall and wife Rena, four grandchildren Valerie Lester and husband Rick, Charlie Meadows and wife Jackie, Steven Meadows and (Kristie), Amanda Shrewsbury and husband Jeff, Jr.; five great grandchildren; Shian Dean and husband Dustin, Alyssa Lester, Parker Shrewsbury, Christian Shrewsbury, and Bethany Shrewsbury, one great-great-grandchild, Levi Dean. Alma was raised in the Primitive Baptist Church and held true to those beliefs and principles throughout her life. We can have the hope of someday seeing her again. A service to celebrate Alma's Life will be held Saturday, October, 7, 2023 at 11:00 am at Memorial Funeral Directory, Princeton, West Virginia with Pastor Donald Williams officiating.
