Allene Hankins Smith, 86, of Airport Drive, Princeton, died Thursday, January 18, 2024, at her residence. Born, March 21, 1937, in War, WV, she was the daughter of the late Robert Calvin Hankins, Jr., and Erma Viola Kestner Hankins. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Allene loved the Lord, her family and her church family. She was a graduate of Big Creek High School and retired as the Supervisor for DHHR with the state of WV with 31 years of exemplary service in Welch. She was affiliated for 50 years with the Order of the Eastern Star. Prior to moving to Princeton, Allene attended the Canebrake Freewill Baptist Church where she formed lifelong friendships. She became affiliated with the Maranatha Baptist Church in Princeton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 55 years, Gerald L. Smith, and her siblings, Freddie Hankins, Robert A. Hankins, Tina Smith and Hattie Muncy. Left to cherish her memory are granddaughter, Tessa Mutter and husband Scott of Princeton; Great-granddaughter and the apple of her eye, Addisyn Mutter; Sister and brother-in-law, Cynthia Harman and husband Gordon Harman, Jr. of Princeton; Sister-in-law and former classmate, Shirley Harman of Burtoff, Florida; Daughter, Diedra Addair of Princeton; Grandson, Timothy Justin Addair of Princeton; Son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Debra Smith of St. Clairsville, OH; Granddaughter, Staci Smith Johnson of Wheeling; Memorial services to celebrate the life of Allene Hankins Smith will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 26, 2024, in the Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton, with Pastors J.P. Mays and Darrell Long officiating. Inurnment will follow in Grandview Memory Gardens on the Bluefield-Tazewell Road, Bluefield, VA. The Princeton Chapter #53 Order of the Eastern Star will hold a memorial service. Friends may visit with the family from Noon until the service hour at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Maranatha Baptist Church, 314 Oakvale Road, Princeton, WV 24740 or to a charity of choice.
